The summer vacation is long and the children are constantly looking for new craft ideas – and sometimes very simple ideas are the best. This simple Tic Tac toe game from stones with bees and ladybirds employs three times: first search for stones, then paint and then play for hours.

Incidentally, I first discovered the basic idea with the bees and lady beetles on Mamahoch2 via Pinterest. There you will also find a simple (and surprisingly also delicious!) Instructions on how you can implement the DIY if you have no stones available. There other material and other techniques To be used, I also wrote down my variant for you.

It was important for me that we could get started with material that I have at home. So we have Stones from the garden And my pintor pens* (black, yellow, red and white) used. For the field we simply used the garden and Stems from the then herb used.

Even smaller children can help with design and painting, even if they are not yet perfect bees. Tip: Simply divide the pens into color worlds and let the children paint on it and design their own gameplets. Then Greens play against blue beetles and so on.

Tic tac toe rules and alternatives

Tic tac toe rules of the game: Place a field with 3 x 3 fields. Everyone gets 5 stones – it is turned alternately. Anyone who put three stones in a row (vertical, horizontal or diagonal) has won!

From Tic Tac toe becomes 4 wins? Much more options and longer games than Tic Tac Toe offers 4 wins. However, the classic playing field consists of 7x 6 fields – that is, there are 42 places. For this you have to paint 21 bees and ladybugs. Here the motivation would have been big enough at least at the beginning.

Instructions

  • The first thing that is as smooth as possible, approximately equally large, rounded stones. You need at least 10.

  • Looking for small sticks or stems for the field.

Paint bees on stones

  • Prime the stone completely yellow on one side. Let the stone dry again and again between the steps – in the sun it works very quickly. Turn over the stone and also primarily primed the back.

  • Paint two white eyes in the next step. The linked stones are opaque so that you can work in layers.

  • Now paint stripes with the black pen. The eyes are surrounded by black and adds a black dot.

  • In the end, add two white wings. Of course you can also paint alternative bees freely.

Paint the ladybug on stones

  • First draw two white circles for the eyes. The pens cover very well, but I avoid white on black if possible. Always let the layers dry in between.

  • Paint and face around the eyes black and add a point in the eye. Pulls a black line over the stone in the middle, which ends up a little wider.

  • Paint the wings red.

  • Add black dots on the wings.
