DIY nights: Make an Advent wreath out of glasses

In the DIY Night Advent countdown we are getting a little closer to Advent every day – there are still 14 days until the first Advent! Every day in November, a creative door opens on our countdown calendar DIY nights with a great prize.

I’m opening my door today with my partner POSCA. With the POSCA markers you can be creative on a variety of surfaces: whether glass, wood, metal, paper, … and that’s exactly what I’m showing you in my project today.

Today I have a step-by-step guide for you on how to Make a great DIY Advent wreath from empty jam jars craft. You probably already have many of the materials used at home. And the POSCA markers make the DIY upcycling Advent wreath really beautiful and individual.

But first I will introduce you to the great POSCA markers and explain the creative project step by step.

I designed the DIY Advent wreath with the POSCA markers so that it looks like snow is running down the glasses. I filled the jars with various things that go well with Christmas and Advent: fir branches, candy canes and beads in matching colors.

The project will be particularly beautiful if you decide on a color scheme that harmonizes well. I mainly worked in green, red and pink tones. Together with the white “snow” it looks so beautifully Christmassy, ​​I think.

So that you know when which candle is lit on the Advent wreath, I painted wooden discs with the POSCA markers and designed the numbers from 1 – 4 on them. For a project like this, it’s really practical that the POSCA markers can be used on so many different surfaces.

This is how it works: DIY Advent wreath made from empty glasses

Step 1: Clean glasses well

The first step is to clean the glasses well. It’s best to use a glass cleaner for this. This is how you achieve the best result with the POSCA markers.

Step 2: Glue on the candle nozzles

Now glue the candle nozzles onto the lids of the jam jars. Use hot glue or superglue for this. Then let the glue dry thoroughly.

Next, you can optionally paint or spray the lids and candle nozzles – depending on the color of your lids. You can also simply leave white lids the same color.

Step 3: Paint snow patterns

Now the snow pattern is painted on the glass with the POSCA markers. To do this, paint a wavy pattern below the rim of your jam jar.

The POSCA marker in PC-3M is ideal for drawing. It is best to use a POSCA marker in PC-5M for coloring.

Step 4: Fill jars

Now fill each jam jar with pine branches, sweets, beads – or whatever you want, as long as it fits the Advent season. It’s a good idea to use something colored so that the “snow” stands out against the filling of the glass.

Step 5: Paint wooden slices

Now it’s time to paint the wooden trailers.

Tipp: For absorbent surfaces such as untreated wood, it is advisable to either pre-treat the wood, for example with clear varnish – or you can prime the wood in any POSCA color.

I primed each of the four trailers in one color with the POSCA markers. I painted the edge of the pendant in silver. The edge shimmers really nicely.

Step 6: Write numbers on the tags

Now you can write the numbers from 1 to 4 on the wooden tags. I used the silver POSCA marker for this – I think the color combination is really nice. Of course, you can then decorate the wooden discs as you wish.

Almost done – now all you have to do is tie the wooden pendants around the glasses with a pretty thread.

For the icing on the cake of my Advent wreath, I also wrote a small Advent message on my tray with the white POSCA marker in PC-5M.

Your beautiful Christmas-winter Advent wreath is ready. I’m really thrilled with the result and I really like the “candy” theme. I’m really looking forward to lighting the first candle on the first Advent.
