It’s July 10th – and so it continues with the #DIYYearChallenge I’m organizing with Laura from trytrytry! Today’s theme is Summer Picnic, yay!
Throughout the year I get creative with Laura from trytrytry on a given topic (always on the 10th of the month) and you can vote on Instagram who has implemented the topic better (always with a raffle!).
Matching July Theme “Summer Picnic” I have with our partner HAPPINESS implemented a nice and practical idea for the summer picnic: DIY gradient citronella candles that help repel mosquitoes. I repositioned these candles with the fantastically beautiful GLÜCK jam jars.
Laura also implemented an idea from the GLÜCK glasses on the subject. I’m really excited!
The DIY citronella candles with color gradient are easy to make and an absolute eye-catcher. In addition, they are also very practical because they keep mosquitoes away from the picnic in the evening hours.
About our partner GLÜCK
With our topic “Summer Picnic” supported and our partner GLÜCK. We can get creative with the GLÜCK jam jars. The GLÜCK jams not only look really good, they are also absolutely delicious.
Die LUCKY jams is available in 10 delicious varieties: strawberry, raspberry, apricot, cherry, currant, rhubarb, peach, blood orange, blueberry and red grape. My personal favorite is raspberry!
The jams are also available as “LUCK Happens” Variant. The “GLÜCK Happens” jams are without seeds and pieces. These are available in mango, strawberry, black cherry, apricot, raspberry, elderberry and blackberry flavors.
The jam jars look so pretty. They are perfect for getting creative with: as DIY decorations or small gifts.
And that’s exactly what Laura and I have for them Summer Picnic DIYYearChallenge made. We each came up with an idea from the GLÜCK glasses.
ABOUT THE DIYYEARCHALLENGE
Every month, Laura from trytrytry and Lisa from meinfeenstaub face a new DIY challenge on a given topic. Our monthly sponsor sends us the same material – and everyone comes up with a DIY idea from the same material – the community then votes on who wins and has implemented the topic better! Each month you can win the DIY pack we created by voting on Instagram to see who won.
We love the concept and hope you enjoy it as much! We find it so exciting how differently a topic can be interpreted – and what you can get out of one and the same material.
Here you can see what we have come up with this month on the topic of “summer picnic” with our partner GLÜCK – make sure to stop by Laura’s!
Laura and both located our picnic in the evening hours and both came up with chic candle ideas.
I’ll show you how easy it is to make gradient citronella candles yourself!
DIY: Make your own gradient citronella candles
- empty LUCK jam jars
- 1 Do
- 2 clothespins
- Candle Wax Beads
- Candle color for coloring
- Citronella Beer
- a small and a large pot
1. In the first step you set up a water bath to melt the wax. To do this, place a small saucepan in a larger saucepan filled with water and stir the wax lentils until they are liquid.
2. Now add a few drops (8-10) of citronella oil to the liquid wax.
3. Now it’s time to color the wax. Since we want a gradient, the wax is first colored heavily and then more and more wax lenses are added so that the color fades away.
4. Add the wax color to the pot and stir until well mixed with the liquid wax.
5. In the next step, the candle wick is placed in the middle of the jam jar. You can fix it with 2 clothespins so that it stays in place and doesn’t slip.
6. Now pour a first layer of wax, about a finger wide, into the GLÜCK jam jar. It is important that you let the layer dry well. Leave some wax in the pot.
7. Now put some wax lentils in the colored wax that is in the pot. Stir the mixture until the color is evenly lighter.
Now put the slightly lighter wax on the 1st wax layer and let it dry again. Keep doing this until you’re almost at the top of the glass. The layers of wax should now be getting lighter and lighter as you add white wax lenses each time.
Make absolutely sure to always let the previous layer dry – otherwise you will not have separate layers, but the layers will blend completely.
When you’re done with that, you’ll have some really cool gradient citronella candles that look beautiful and keep the mosquitoes away too. It’s also a perfect gift idea.
And now: Be sure to check out Instagram, because you can vote on Instagram whether Laura or I have implemented the topic “summer picnic” better. You can also win a large set of “GLÜCK Jams” – to enjoy and then get creative.
