Advertising, unsolicited Converting an IKEA BEKVÄM spice rack into a bookcase for children: Today I have a really nice DIY for you and your kids, which this time isn’t very complicated and is therefore easy to copy. This is another IKEA HACK for the BEKVÄM spice rack, which I have converted into a bookcase.

Use BEKVÄM spice rack for books

Even though my daughter can’t even hold a book by herself, I’m looking forward to the time when we can read and discover stories together. Of course, you need a place for that and I’ve already got the books. Preparation is everything! That’s why I used the BEKVÄM spice racks to build a shelf for the books. It’s perfect for that and is much cheaper than the FLISAT shelves. The shelf is easy to build yourself. That’s why I’m going to show you how it works and below I’ll introduce you to some lovely children’s books!

IKEA Hack: Bookshelf made from BEKVÄM spice rack

Instructions

1

Place 3 shelves on each of the wooden boards and glue them in place with assembly adhesive. The shelves should be attached to both boards at the same height.

2

When the glue has dried, screw the shelves to the board on the back with 6 screws per board (2 screws per shelf).

3

Paint the two halves of the shelf with Romantic Pink and Sierra Nevada. You will need two coats.

4

Spread assembly adhesive generously on the back of one of the wooden boards. Then place the other side of the bookcase on top and glue both sides together. Until the adhesive has completely dried, secure the boards with screw clamps or place something heavy on top.

5

Glue the small wooden board to the bottom of the shelf using assembly adhesive. Then screw it in place with the remaining screws.

6

Screw the furniture casters onto the bottom. Your bookshelf is ready.
