Next I go to #DIYYearChallengethat I organize every month with Laura from trytrytry! Our topic today is „Farbklecks“We want to bring some color into the home with our DIY projects today. To match this, I made a super cute mini chest of drawers out of the IKEA Moppe drawer box and the Rödeby mat, which really looks great.

Our sponsor for the month of August is Lignocolor. Lignocolor has a great selection of chalk paints, wall paints, glazes, varnishes and stains. There are lots of different colors – you’re guaranteed to find the right shade for your next DIY or upcycling project.

For our theme “Color Splash”, Lignocolor gave us a very special surprise for our projects: Laura and I were allowed our own color set from the Lignocolor chalk paints. I’ll show you that in a moment. And then of course there are DIY instructions with which you can easily copy the IKEA hack.

ABOUT OUR PARTNER LIGNOCOLOR

At Lignocolor you will find a huge selection of paints for your DIY projects. There are chalk paints, glazes, oils, stains and wall paints in great quality. And when I say “huge selection”, I mean exactly that: There are whole 144 shades of chalk paint.

Chalk paints are great for DIY and upcycling projects – or furniture that could use a new coat of paint. I also used chalk paints for my blue and pink mini dresser – from the set “Pastel Dreams“, which Laura and I were allowed to combine ourselves. How cool is that?!

Laura and I spent a long time comparing and matching the color cards until we decided on 5 colors for our set “Pastel Dreams“ There are just so many great colors! In addition to our set, you can find some other color-coordinated Sets of chalk paints.

ABOUT THE DIYYEARCHALLENGE

Every month, Laura from trytrytry and Lisa from meinfeenstaub take on a new DIY challenge on a given topic with the #DIYYearChallenge. Our monthly sponsor sends us the same material – and each of us comes up with a DIY idea using the same material – the community then votes on who wins and has implemented the topic better!

Every month you can win the DIY package that we were creative with by voting on Instagram to find out who won. It’s definitely worth checking out Instagram because today you can win the great set from Lignocolor.

There you will always find our ideas as a DIY video.

As you can see, Laura also has a cool IKEA hack with our set “Pastel Dreams“ I love how well you can see how versatile the set can be: you can combine the colors in a brighter or more subtle way.

How to do it: IKEA Hack – Mini chest of drawers with mop handles

I’ll show you how to easily implement this cool IKEA hack yourself.

Step 1: Cut the Rödeby mat

In the first step, the “Rödeby” mat is sawn to fit the drawers. The Moppe drawers will later all be covered with the wooden mat.

To take the measurements, take out the large mop drawer and trace the outline of the front a total of 3 times with a pencil on the wooden mat.

Now saw out this shape three times. This will be the lining of the drawers. You can use a jigsaw or a hand saw for this.

If you’re wondering why the Moppe chest of drawers also has smaller drawers, these will be glued together later. So we only need the dimensions and shape of the large drawer.

Then sand the edges of the sawn wooden mat.

Step 2: Glue the drawers together

In the end, we want to have (at least visually) three large drawers in the Moppe chest of drawers, so the next step is to glue the small drawers together with assembly adhesive.

Apply the assembly adhesive generously to the connecting wall of the small drawers so that you can glue them together in the middle: This is two drawers and three small drawers, which together make one large drawer.

Press the drawers together firmly and secure them with clamps or screw clamps. The assembly adhesive must harden overnight. After that, it will be super stable.

Next, the three cut Rödeby mats are glued to the front of the drawers using assembly adhesive and also pressed down firmly.

Step 3: Painting & Sealing

Next it’s time to paint. Now you’re spoiled for choice as to which colors you want to paint the drawers and the body of the dresser. I chose “Romantic Pink” for the drawers and “Baby Blue” for the body of the mini dresser. I think the combination is so beautiful!

You can use either a brush or a paint roller to paint with chalk paint. A paint roller is ideal for smooth surfaces, while a brush is useful for small details and corners.

For an even result, it is best to work in several layers rather than using a lot of paint at once. I first painted the body of the “Moppe” dresser in “Baby Blue” by Lignocolor.

Next I tackled the drawers. First I painted the grooves of the wooden mat with a brush to ensure that enough paint got into the recesses. Then I used the paint roller to paint over the entire surface again.

The result is really nice and opaque – I’m really impressed. The color shines beautifully.

Once the paint has dried thoroughly, it’s time to seal it. For this, I use the Lignocolor sealant, which I first apply with a brush and then spread over the surface with a paint roller.

Step 4: Attach furniture handles

I bought three matching furniture handles at the hardware store, which are the icing on the cake for the mini chest of drawers. To attach the furniture knobs, a hole is drilled in the middle of each drawer and then the handles are screwed on.

Tipp: The Moppe chest of drawers has three drawer compartments, consisting of one, two and three drawers. Since you glued the two drawers together, you cannot screw on a handle in the middle, as this is where the side walls run. I simply glued the handle here with assembly adhesive and left it to dry overnight. It holds really well.

And the Moppe dresser is ready in its brand new, colorful outfit. Isn’t it gorgeous?

I use the colorful mini chest of drawers in the kitchen as a tea box. I put small square containers in the drawers where I now keep my tea bags. I am always happy when I see this great unique piece in the kitchen.
