Do you have a small pantry at home that is in chaos and that you would like to organize? In this post, I will show you what products I used to better organize my pantry and supplies.
A well-organized pantry is an invaluable advantage for every household. In small apartments or houses in particular, using the available space efficiently can be a challenge. I know what I’m talking about, because until recently my pantry looked like a real junk room. Organizing a small pantry optimally means using every inch sensibly and having both clarity and easy access to the things stored. In this article, I want to show you how I organize my pantry and which Amazon and IKEA products make this particularly easy. I’ll also give you tips on what you should generally consider when organizing the pantry.
No one is born a master, and if you’re feeling guilty about the pictures of the tidy room, then let me tell you: Until recently, my room didn’t look tidy at all. Everything was just put in there and I hoped that it wouldn’t fall over. I had no idea where anything was and that was pretty annoying. So I completely reorganized everything and now I’m going to show you how I did it step by step.
Instructions
The first thing I did was replace the shelves. They were too unstable, too small and had too few compartments. I decided on 2 Billy shelves because they fit perfectly in my small room. I added two extensions on top. Since we have very high ceilings, we were able to use the space above even more.
After that, a radical sorting out took place. Everything that was no longer used, or even forgotten, was either thrown away, given away or sold again. It is really liberating to get rid of excess baggage.
Next, I divided the things that could stay into categories. That way, I had the same things together in one place and not scattered around randomly.
I used white containers for the shelf. Exactly four containers fit next to each other, so I made optimal use of the space.
The containers were also labelled, exactly where it was appropriate. This is particularly useful for the upper compartments, as you cannot always see straight away what is stored in these containers.
I converted the TROVAST shelf from IKEA for returnable bottles, shopping bags and garbage bags. It was the perfect size and I was able to store bulky items like shopping bags in larger containers.
I used a pegboard for my tools. This way I can see everything at a glance and was able to use the space on the wall as well.
I also had a LACK shelf left over. Exactly five transparent 19 L boxes fit next to each other on this. I use these to store clothes that I don’t need for the time being and was able to use the additional space above.
I hung two MOSSLANDA shelves above the washing machine. I still had those, so I could store the detergent from the shelf above the washing machine and thus had new space on the pantry shelf.
Isn’t the result great? I think I was able to use all the space in the small room. Now I have to see if I can keep it tidy. That’s a whole different story.
Tips for organizing a pantry
Here are the most important tips for organizing the chamber:
High shelves: Use high shelves up to the ceiling to store rarely used items or supplies.
Categories: Sort the products by category for a better overview.
Boxes and containers: Use (transparent) boxes to safely store things in the closet and to divide them even further into categories.
Labels: Use labels on all containers and shelves to allow quick and easy identification of contents.
Again and again: Check your system regularly and see what can be improved if necessary.
