This post contains advertising for Dremel Are you having a party, a birthday soon or do you finally want to decorate for the summer? Then this DIY summer decoration in a picture frame is just right for you! In this blog post I will show you how to do it.

Summer, sun, warm nights: it’s finally summer and we should definitely enjoy the best time of the year to the fullest. For the Tropical Summer 2023, of course, the right decoration should not be missing, which gets us in the right mood. July is made for it, so it’s no wonder that a summer theme is part of the #DIYYearChallenge. I implemented my idea for a picture frame with tropical lettering together with Dremel*.

It’s going to be tropical!

Lisa from meinfeenstaub.com and I have each come up with a craft idea for the month of July for the theme “Tropical Summer”. The multi-function tool Dremel 8240 (which I was allowed to test exclusively before the official sale in Germany!) and the glass engraving set (682) from Dremel were used. For all those who still have a few question marks and think “What kind of challenge?” – no problem. I have summarized the most important points of the challenge for you here.

#DIYYearChallenge 2023

Lisa and I face a creative challenge once a month for a year – the #DIYYEARChallenge. On a given topic and with the support of a sponsor, we independently implement a DIY. We get creative with the sponsor’s materials and publish our results on our blogs and social media channels. Our followers can win great prizes from the sponsor by voting for their favorite under the Instagram post.

Monthly Theme July: Tropical Summer

The summer month of July is perfect for a special kind of DIY summer decoration. I designed a picture frame with tropical lettering under the theme “Tropical Summer”. It can be used for the next summer party or create a tropical atmosphere in your home and make you dream of far away countries. This time our partner Dremel supported us on this topic! In my post, I explain step by step how you can design this summer decoration yourself. You can also read more about the Dremel Multi-Tool 8240 and Glass Engraving Set (682) below – both of which were used in my DIY today. I’ll also tell you something about the flexible shaft, which makes working even easier! Be sure to check out how Lisa interpreted the theme.

So light could you design the picture frame yourself:

Instructions

2

Take one of the glass panes out of the frame and place the template under this glass pane.

3

Place the glass pane and the template on a base and stick both to it so that nothing slips.

4

Take the 2 mm diamond tipped cutter (7103) from the Dremel glass engraving set, attach it to the Dremel 8240 multi-tool and secure it with the open-end wrench provided.

5

Put on safety goggles and protective gloves.

6

Now trace and engrave the motif under the pane on the glass pane with the Dremel 8240 multi-tool.

7

Swap the attachment for the 3.2 mm silicon carbide grinding stone (83322) and use it to trace the lettering again. This makes the surface of the lettering even smoother.

8

Now remove the adhesive tape and detach the engraved glass pane from the base.

9

The leaves and flowers are now positioned on the second pane of glass, creating a beautiful floral image.

10

Now the engraved disk is placed on the flowers on the glass pane. Both panes of glass are inserted into the frame and closed tightly.

Your tropical DIY summer decoration is ready.

With Start the summer creatively with Dremel

With the Dremel 8240 multi-tool and matching attachments you can separate, cut, drill, route, sand, sharpen, sand, carve, engrave, polish and clean. Comfortable working is also possible over a longer period of time. The multi-function tool sits ergonomically in your hand, weighs just over 600 grams and has a 12 V battery that is easy to charge and lasts a long time. It thus enables the same performance as the most powerful corded Dremel tool. The speed can easily be adjusted between 5,000-35,000 rpm. The model is not yet on the market.

In order to be able to work on glass, I also recommend the glass engraving set (682). With these multi-tool attachments, you can engrave simple patterns or writing on glass, metal, wood, stone, leather, or plastic. You don’t need any special manual skills to implement your creative ideas, and the multifunction tool isn’t difficult to use.

Before you use the device, you should register it on MyDremel within 4 weeks via the QR code, because this way you can extend the manufacturer’s warranty by one year.

For even more precision: the flexible shaft

For particularly complex or tricky projects, it is advisable to use the Dremel Flexible Shaft. It allows a more detailed work, as your Dremel is simply hung on the tool stand and connected to the flexible shaft at the same time. This is even lighter, which means you can work comfortably over a longer period of time.
