Instructions

1

Think about suitable motifs. For example, take a look at Google or Pinterest to see how you can paint candles. On the one hand, there are different occasions: spring, Easter, birthdays or Christmas. Depending on the situation, you can adapt your motifs accordingly. You shouldn’t choose motifs that are too complicated at the beginning so that you can get acquainted with painting candles. Simple motifs to start with are hearts, flowers, clouds, moon & stars, suns, smileys, rainbows or geometric shapes, dots and lines.

2

Once you have thought about motifs, choose the appropriate colors. You can work with different techniques and decorate the candles with acrylic paints, candle sticks or candle wax. I have explained to you in more detail below what the differences between the different materials are.

3

I painted with acrylic paint and carefully spread the paint over the candle with a thin brush. The thinner the brush, the more precise motifs can be painted.

4

Prepare a container or surface so that you can dry the paint on the candle. Remember that you may have to put the candle down. Then it makes sense to paint one side first and let it dry before continuing.

5

It also makes sense when using multiple colors (e.g. floral patterns) to transfer the first layer and let it dry before using the next color. This will prevent the colors from mixing or smudging when applied.

6

Now just let the paint dry thoroughly and you’re done painting the candles!

Candle Painting: Ideas and Techniques

Painting candles: With acrylic paints, candle wax or pens?

What paint should you use to paint candles? There are different techniques and materials. Below I will introduce you to the different options:

Painting candles with acrylic paints:

This is a favorite method. Acrylic paints* and brushes* You usually already have them at home and maybe even a few white candles. Then you can get started! With particularly thin brushes you can transfer great motifs to the candles and you can mix the acrylic colors as you like, so you have a large selection of colors. If you want to transfer large motifs to your candles, you should keep in mind that The paint may produce unpleasant odors or smoke when melted. Therefore, in this case it would be better if the candles only served a purely decorative purpose.

Painting candles with candle wax:

A very similar method to the previous one is painting candles with wax. This is where you use However, not color but colored tea lights*. Just light it and Spread the liquid wax over the candle with a thin brush. This should be done very quickly as the wax hardens quickly. So a little practice is needed here! The choice of colors is of course very limited here. In addition, you usually always have to buy packages of the same tea light color, even though you only need one tea light. In addition, despite a thin brush, it is more difficult to transfer delicate lines to the candle. After some time, a layer of wax will also form on the brush. Therefore, the brush should be cleaned from time to time. However, it may well be that you can no longer use the brush after use. One advantage is that you can light the candle afterwards without any worries. You can see exactly how the technology works here, for example.

Painting candles with pens:

For this method you get yourself Candle sticks or candle pens*. They’re up Beeswax base and usually available in larger packages with different colors. you will be held like a pen and liquid wax comes out of the tip, which can be transferred to the candle. The wax takes significantly longer to dry than with the tealight method. The drying time here is comparable to the method with acrylic paints. You cannot apply different thick motifs here, as there is only one uniform size for the tip. You should also practice a bit first to test how much and how quickly candle wax is squeezed out of the tip. This way you will have a better feeling later when you paint the candles. The liquid wax can be easily removed again As long as it hasn’t dried yet and burning the candle is no problem with the candle pens.
